Horan set for Celtic stay

Stalybridge Celtic have been handed a huge boost ahead of the upcoming 2026/27 campaign, with mecurial winger Ellis Horan committing his future to the club. 

The 20-year-old arrived at Bower Fold in early 2025, and was a key figure in Celtic’s run to the 2025/26 NPL West play-off final, in which he notched a goal and an assist in a 4-2 loss to Avro. 

The former Preston North End youth player featured in all but one of the club’s 44 league matches last campaign, recording an impressive 11 goals and 16 assists, earning him both the Supporter’s and Young Player of the Season awards. 

Celtic have reportedly fended off interest from clubs higher up in the pyramid to secure his signature, which could be key in their quest to return to Step 3.  

“I’m so happy to be back here next season,” Horan told the club following his signing.  

“I can’t wait to get the season going and finish off what we deserved from last year and give the fans what they deserve.” 

Horan becomes one of 12 Celtic stars to put pen to paper ahead of the new season. 

Skipper Liam Tongue, Manager’s Player of the Season Charlie Doyle, and Player’s Player of the Season Kyle Brownhill – the latter of whom played every league minute last term – are all set to stay. 

Elsewhere top scorer Ruben Jerome, and the equally prolific Jack Irlam will also remain at Bower Fold for 26/27, along with attacking midfielder Andy Scarisbrick, and young shotstopper Charlie Monks. 

They will be joined by the defensive quartet of Jack Byrne, Jack Tinning, Mike Koral and Jordan Butterworth.
