Hillmen start the year with a win

Glossop RUFC picked up a comprehensive home victory over the weekend, seeing off Liverpool Collegiate 51-16. 

The Hillmen conceded a penalty early on against their Liverpool visitors, following a high tackle. 

However, Glossop flyhalf Tom Dearnaley quickly equalised with a penalty of his own. 

There was another penalty for each side as both teams battled to get the upper hand. 

Glossop managed to get a foothold in the game though based on good solid scrummaging and good handling. 

Chris Sonczak got the home side’s first try to see Glossop nudge ahead 11-6. 

Speedy winger Joe Griffiths then extended the lead with a try of his own to make the score 16-6. 

The Liverpool side got their opening try just before halftime to see the score 16-11 at the break. 

After the break Glossop let loose, attacking at every opportunity and No. 8 Tom Raine added a try which Dearnaley converted to extend the score to 23-11. 

Following great handling in midfield, Griffiths got his second again converted by Dearnaley to ease further ahead at 30-11. 

Griffiths quickly sealed his hat trick with a solo run to the line and Dearnaley’s conversion made it 37-11 as the visitors tired in the face of Glossop’s relentless attacking play. 

There were two further tries for Glossop through stalwarts Edwards and Chabas both converted to see the coaching duo of Kit Brammer and Dan Clark beaming from the touchline, as the score showed 51-11. 

The visitors got the last try of the match to see a final score of 51-16.
