Hillmen pick up hard fought win at home

Glossop North End built on their late equaliser at Colne with a 2-1 win at home to Litherland REMYCA on Tuesday.

The visitors flew out of the blocks at the Asgard Engineering Stadium, taking the lead with just three minutes on the clock through a long-range strike from Joran Monthe.

However, the away side’s lead would not last long as GNE were awarded a penalty on 17 minutes after Keaton Mulvey was brought down inside the penalty area.

Up stepped Lee Rick to slot home the spot kick and level up the scoring.

The Hillmen almost went in front just past the half hour mark when Dylan McMahon let fly from outside the penalty area, but his effort cannoned back out off the crossbar.

Richard Brodie’s men then finally managed to break the deadlock mid-way through the second half when David Badrock headed home a cross from goal scorer Lee Rick.

Despite a late fightback from the visitors, GNE managed to hold on and seal an important three points.

“It was a really good performance all things considered,” Hillmen boss Richard Brodie told the club’s YouTube channel following the win.

“We had to delay the kick-off by 15 minutes due to a crash on the M57, and Tom (Lawless) and Lewis (Reilly) arrived three minutes before the start, so we had to change the team and alter our shape slightly.

“But we’ve overcome adversity once again to get a really good result.”

The win sees Glossop sit in 14th place in the NWCFL Premier Division, ahead of Saturday’s trip to 7th placed Irlam.
