Hillmen held to home stalemate by Cheadle Town

Glossop North End boss Richard Brodie praised his side’s resilience after keeping a second consecutive clean sheet in Tuesday night’s goalless draw with Cheadle Town.

“I’m just really pleased with the fact that we’ve got four points from two games,” he told the club’s YouTube channel. “We’ve kept two clean sheets, I’ve named the same starting eleven, and I can see something that’s building.”

The Hillmen finished the game the stronger of the two sides, with a Lewis Reilly freekick pulling an athletic stop out of former Hyde United keeper James Hodges in the Cheadle goal.

An all-action opening ten minutes resulted in a chance falling the way of GNE’s Tom Lawless, but they couldn’t build on their slick early play.

Most of Glossop’s best attacking work came through Reilly, Abdul Djalo, and man of the match Yacin Amarzou, but the Stockport side’s back line remained unbreached.

“Pre-season’s starting to kick in now,” continued Brodie. “We worked hard pre-season, it was tough, but there was a lot of planning on it.

“The mood’s good. There’s a buzz, there’s a bond there, and all I can ask for as a manager is that players give you 110%.”
