Hillmen Forced To Share The Points

NPL West: Glossop North End 2-2 City of Liverpool

Glossop needed a reaction after a poor run of results against a City Of Liverpool side who had gone three games unbeaten after a 6-0 thrashing away at Clitheroe.

The reaction didn’t come as the team from Liverpool dominated the first half hitting the post on 25 minutes and having a few other half chances. However at the break somehow the game was still on level terms.

In the second period the blues didn’t improve and on the 54th minute City Of Liverpool capitalised with a beautiful run and shot from distance by Jack Wells that ricocheted off the left hand post and into the back of the net.

GNE replied after 10 minutes through a Bevan Burey corner that was flicked to the back post where Ruban Dass poked home for his first Glossop goal. The hosts dominated after the equaliser which resulted in a 75th minute penalty. Jamie Rainford stepped up and converted. It looked as though GNE were cruising to victory until in injury time Liverpool were awarded a penalty that Michael Monaghan slotted away.

A frustrating end to the game but, on the balance of things, provided to be a fair result in the end.
