Hillmen beaten on the road

Glossop RUFC fell to defeat at the weekend, with hosts Littleborough picking up a convincing 41-19 win.

A foggy and murky day in Rochdale saw Glossop forge into an early lead, as number 8 Tom Raine stormed over after a bustling run from skipper Grime.

Number 10 Dearing converted to see Glossop off to a great start at 7-0.

This lead was short lived though as the home side hit back with a try of their own, under the posts.

This was converted to draw level at 7-7.

With the Hillmen showing a much improved lineout and a tougher scrummaging performance, it was them that broke the deadlock as right winger Finn Winterbottom intercepted on half way and stormed into the corner.

The conversion was missed to see Glossop lead 12-7.

Shortly before half time in what had been a very even half, Littleborough kicked a penalty to reduce their deficit to 12-10.

The second half saw a different story evolve though and the home side quickly got their noses in front with a try on the right wing to see them gain the lead 17-12.

A penalty extended their lead to 20-12.

Glossop were putting a great defensive effort in but the dam wall eventually broke and Borough got another try after extensive pressure to lead 27-12.

Glossop, who had to play up a large sloping pitch in the second half, got a try of their own back through aggressive winger Joe Griffiths and with Tom Dearnaley converting they reduced Littleborough’s lead to 27-19.

After this, with the heavy pitch taking its toll on the Derbyshire side, it was all Littleborough and they ran in a couple more trys to win convincingly in the end 41-19.

Next week Glossop travel to Tyldesley, as they look to turn around their fortunes.
