Harding wins bronze at Diving Winter Cup

Olympic bronze medallist Anthony Harding began the diving season with a 3rd place finish at the Aquatics GB National Diving Winter Cup in Sheffield on Saturday.

The Ashton athlete, who represents the City of Leeds Diving Club, was behind Jordan Houlden after the first round of the 1m springboard, but the home diver fluffed his lines on his next attempt to gift Harding a comfortable early lead.

Harding – competing in a national solo event for the first time in two years after synchro success with Jack Laugher – nailed a tricky Tucked Inward 2.5 Somersaults to take advantage.

However, the top seed came unstuck with a Tucked Back 2.5 Somersaults, under-rotating on entry to score 33.00 points in round four to hand the initiative back to Houlden, who held on for the win.

Three-time British 10m platform champion Matthew Dixon, steady throughout, pipped Harding to silver, repeating the Top 2 finishers in the 3m final the previous day.
