GTB takes 3rd place in World Triathlon Championship Series in China

Tameside triathlete Georgia Taylor-Brown added another podium to her CV with a 3rd place finish in the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) in Weihai, China, on Friday September 27.

The 30-year-old from Droylsden kept her impressive comeback season on track, coming in behind GB teammate Beth Potter and event winner Lisa Tertsch.

The German athlete led throughout in claiming her first WTCS win, being first out of the water following a tightly bunched 1.5km swim.

She also held a slender advantage at the end of the 40km bike stage, with GB’s Kate Waugh, 2023 European champion Jeanne Lehair and Alice Betto of Italy also in contention with Potter and Taylor-Brown.

Arguably the field’s strongest runner, Tertsch pulled away from the chasing pack during the 10km run, clocking a superb time of 33:24 to cross the line 17 seconds clear of Potter, who came home 41 seconds ahead of GTB.

GB’s Olympic gold medallist Alex Yee won the men’s race in style, 46 and 57 seconds in front of Leo Bergere of France and Brazil’s Miguel Hidalgo, respectively.

The triathlon circuit moves on to Toulouse next weekend, with Taylor-Brown looking to tie up a hat-trick of supertri wins after her victories in Chicago and London in the previous two legs.
