Glossop North End crashed out of the FA Cup at the Extra Preliminary Round stage after a 3-1 defeat away to FC St Helens in Tuesday’s replay.
The original tie, which took place on Saturday, ended all square at Surrey Street after Lewis Reilly’s thunderbolt on 10 minutes cancelled out Ethan Jones’ earlier opener.
As for the replay on Merseyside, it was hosts St Helens who took the lead once again, this time on 56 minutes through Joshua Briggs.
Briggs completed his brace less than 15 minutes later to double his side’s lead before Ethan Sutcliffe pulled one back for the visitors, but it was St Helens who would have the final say.
With three minutes to go, Joseph Barker’s spotkick put the game beyond any doubt and sealed GNE’s fate.
“I feel flat to be honest,” Hillmen boss Richard Brodie told the club at full-time.
“It’s a game that we could’ve done without, I had my heart set of finishing the tie off on Saturday, but that didn’t happen.
“You’ve got to take your chances when you’re on top, the first goal was always going to be crucial, and they got it.”
Brodie’s side return to league action this weekend as they jet off to the Isle of Man.
