Glossop Community Club's winning run continues

Two games into their new season in the Manchester League Division Two, Glossop North End Community Club’s strong start continued on Saturday with another comeback victory.

An 89th-minute winner from 18-year-old Connor Taylor-Scowcroft sealed a dramatic 2–1 win against a strong Astley & Tyldesley side, who narrowly missed out on promotion last term.

Astley began the brighter, forcing stopper Aaron Potts into a number of good saves, but Glossop soon grew into the contest.

Wing-backs Connor Scowcroft and Jack Greenwood pushed forward well, while Charlie Goddard and Tobey Wilde worked tirelessly up front.

Chances came at both ends, but the first half ended goalless — a fair reflection of a tightly fought opening 45 minutes.

In the second half, the Blues looked to add more attacking threat with the introduction of Jo Jo Mills, while skipper Alex Elliott brought composure in midfield alongside the lively Stevie Melia.

Callum Cheetham covered plenty of ground in the middle, but it was Astley who struck first on 70 minutes, capitalising on a tight offside call to break the deadlock.

The setback sparked Glossop into life.

Returning from a long-term injury, Harry Vennard almost produced a goal of the season contender with a dazzling Kinkladze-style run, only to be denied by a fine save.

With time running out, Elliott was pushed further forward, and it was the captain himself who levelled on 81 minutes with a well-taken finish.

The momentum was now with the Blues, and with just 90 seconds left on the clock, a perfectly-timed ball from Brodie Sharpe released Scowcroft, who raced through to slot home the winner and spark jubilant celebrations.

The 2–1 win makes it two wins from two and maintains Glossop’s 100% start to the campaign.
