Glossop's winless run continues

NPL West: Glossop North End 0-2 Prescot Cables

Glossop North End's winless run continued as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Prescot Cables in the Northern Premier League West

The visitors started the game brightest and had the first opportunity through Kyle Sambor, but he dragged his effort wide of the post from the edge of the box.

A string of mistakes by the Hillmen could have proved costly in the first 15 minutes, as Harry Allen’s drop kick was mis-cued and the ball, intercepted by Leon Arnasalam, was almost lobbed into the net from 40-yards out. Two minutes later Lee Wilshaw was closed down by Sam O’Halleron inside the penalty area and his show went just wide of the mark.

Louis White proved to be dangerous on free kicks for the Blues and had two great opportunities in the first half.

The first was a low driven effort from the side of the area that went just wide, and the latter was from a more central position that took a slight deflection and drifted just wide.

On the stroke of half time, the visitors had a golden opportunity through substitute Lewis Buckley, however he blazed his one-on-one effort over the bar.

It didn’t take long for Cables to open the score line in the second half as Ian Kearney directed an excellent Buckley cross into the net to put the Merseyside outfit in front.

From then on, the visitors looked in no real danger and came close to doubling their lead on the 62nd minute as Kyle Sambor was denied by a magnificent save from Harry Allen.

Prescot closed the game out professionally and bagged a second and decisive goal through Sambor in the 88th minute.

The ball was flicked on to the tall number nine, who chested it down and half-volleyed on the turn to double their advantage and kill the game off.

Stuart Mellish’s side simply had no reply in the second half and will look to bounce back strongly this weekend when City of Liverpool visit the Amdec Forklift Stadium.
