Glossop speedster prepares for her final showdown

Glossop racing star Alisha Palmowski is gearing up for her final race weekend of the 2024 GB4 Championship season, as she looks to overturn a 35-point deficit to take the crown.

The 18-year-old sits second in the overall standings ahead of her trip to Brands Hatch this weekend, still with a slight chance of overtaking Swedish driver Linus Granfors, who currently leads the pack.

Though winning the Championship is still mathematically possible, as a race win is worth 35 points, Palmowski admits she will need some luck if she is to pick up the trophy:

“I’ll need a bit of a miracle to happen if I’m to win,” the speedster told the Chronicle.

“But I'm just looking forward to giving it my all and we’ll see what happens.

“Brands Hatch has historically been one of my most successful tracks so I can’t wait for it.”

After a tough start to her debut season, the former St Phillip Howard pupil turned around her fortunes and put herself back in contention for the title with a stellar performance in her fourth race weekend at Snetterton back in July:

“Snetterton was my standout weekend,” Palmowski told the Chronicle.

“Prior to that I was 71 points away from the lead, and I left Snetterton and was only 16 behind, so that really put me back in the fight.”

Out of the three races that weekend, Palmowski was victorious in two, and came runner up in the other, which enabled her to claw back some ground on her competitors.

Then, in early September, two podiums at Donington Park kept her within touching distance of the race leader, ahead of this weekend’s final showdown.

Regardless of the outcome at Brands Hatch, Palmowski says she will look back on this campaign fondly:

“If you’d have told me at the start I’d be second in the Championship going into the final round then I wouldn't have believed you, so I’d say it’s been a successful year whatever happens.”

“My objective this year was to learn, make mistakes, and grow from them in preparation for future years, and that’s exactly what I’ve done.”
