Glossop seal third straight win

Glossop RUFC romped to their third straight victory in style on Saturday, seeing off Heaton Moor 24-0.

The opening exchanges of this game proved very even, with both sides opting for an open style of rugby.

The Hillmen were first on the scoresheet though, as centre Jon Tennant strolled over after good pressure from the forwards and slick handling in the backs.

Tom Dearnaley converted for a well earned 7-0 lead.

There were punishing runs coming from Glossop, through both forwards and backs and this caused much uncertainty amongst Moor’s defence.

No 8 Tom Raine was next to go over for Glossop, following a 5m scrum to extend the lead to 12-0.

The Hillmen were now firmly on top and a further try followed for wing Billy Whiston, following a great run and pass from fellow winger Griffiths. This saw the score at 19-0 at half time.

As the second half started, so did the rain, which hampered both sides’ ambitions.

Glossop continued with some physical direct running, making Moor tackle repeatedly.

Back row Edwards and centre Tennant were particularly prominent in these assaults, with skipper Zak Round backing them up with numerous line-breaking runs.

Wing forward Chabas was also a thorn in the side for the Stockport visitors, with a non-stop, energetic performance.

The only try of the second half, which gave Glossop their bonus point win, fell to replacement back rower Jack Holden, to see Glossop secure fifth place in the league with their third win on the trot.

Next week Glossop host league leaders Southport.
