Glossop recognised in rugby magazine

Glossop Rugby Club are celebrating after receiving some worthy recognition from one of rugby's most renowned publications. 

This year officially marks the 50th anniversary of the Hargate Hill club, who have had a flying start to the current campaign in North Two West. 

As a result, they have been named Team of the Month for October in The Rugby World Magazine - which is widely considered to be the voice of global rugby and brands itself the world's best-selling rugby magazine. The monthly publication has been running since 1960. 

Glossop were initially founded in 1889 before quickly disappearing off the scene, but they were revived half a century ago by members of the local mountain rescue team. 

There's undoubtedly been a real feel-good factor around the club this season, not least because of their progress on the pitch which is receiving widespread respect. 

They currently sit third in the table and promotion at the end of the campaign seems like a realistic prospect under the stewardship of head coach John Openshaw, who is supported by Mark Winterbottom and Neil Pearson. 

Glossop didn't play last weekend but their last outing on November 23 saw them beat the team directly above them, Manchester, 35-32 away from home. 

It doesn't get any easier for them, with leaders Rochdale their visitors this Saturday, but Glossop have risen to most challenges laid before them in recent times so they will be quietly confident of racking up another notable win. 

The Rugby World Magazine accolade for 'Team of the Month' is open to any amateur side in the world, so it's quite a feat for Glossop to be recognised and is testament to their impressive form.
