Glossop Progress In FA Cup

FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round: Glossop North End 1-0 Emley

Glossop went into the tie massive favourites with Emley being one step below them in the pyramid.

Adding to that the Blues went unbeaten in pre-season. On the 28th minute the Emley keeper had to scramble and tip the ball round his far post as a beauty of a free kick from Luke Nock looked as though it was going to curl into the top corner.

Just a few minutes later the home side had another opportunity as Marty Gilham was played over down the right hand side by Sam Barratt, he played a square ball to the back post where Harry Freeman was waiting but the striker couldn’t tuck it away.

Right on half-time a blocked shot fell to Jack Hopkins on the edge of the box, he thundered the ball towards goal forcing another good save from the Emley 'keeper. The teams went into the half-time break on level terms after failing to break the deadlock.

It took until the dying embers of the fixture for a goal to arrive. With five minutes remaining, a Glossop corner was whipped to the back post where a header was cleared off the line. A minute later The Hillmen had another corner which was this time headed home brilliantly by centre half Will Higham. After 10 minutes of stoppage time the referee finally blew the full-time whistle, confirming Glossop's place in the next round against Sheffield FC.
