A local volunteer is celebrating after winning a prestigious regional award.
Glossop North End’s Tommy Ayres was recognised for his superb efforts at the recent Derbyshire FA Grassroots Football Awards.
The popular figure scooped the Groundsperson of the Year award during last Friday’s ceremony, which took place at Derby County's Pride Park Stadium.
Tommy – who has been a volunteer at Surrey Street since 2009 – was appointed to the club’s Board of Directors in 2022, and has finally been recognised for his hard work.
A spokesperson for Derbyshire FA said:
“Tommy has been recognised for his tireless dedication behind the scenes, going above and beyond to ensure the club's facilities are maintained and football can be enjoyed by all.”
