Glossop celebrates girls’ football in style at Big Football Day

Glossop North End Community Club marked the FA’s Big Football Day in fantastic fashion last week, with a jam-packed schedule of football, leadership, and inspiration at the Glossop Community Sports Hub on the Ellen White Pitch.

Despite the soaring temperatures, 70 girls took to the pitch to celebrate the occasion — supported by an incredible team of volunteers who helped make the day such a success.

A particular highlight was the Leadership Event, where 35 girls stepped over the sidelines to explore coaching and refereeing in dedicated workshops.

The response from local schools was overwhelmingly positive, and one parent said their daughter left the day feeling inspired and empowered.

Many girls even scanned a club QR code to find out how to get more involved in the game.

The club also hosted the High Peak Cup, with teams from New Mills High School and Glossopdale School winning in their respective age categories — showcasing the growing talent in local girls’ football.

Later in the day, the club ran its regular and hugely popular Wildcats and Squad Girls sessions, followed by a Just Play women’s session.

The evening wrapped up with players gathering in the clubhouse to enjoy one of the UEFA Women’s EURO games together.

Natalie Mills — Club Secretary, Women’s First Team Manager, and FA Coordinator — summed up the event:

“It was an amazing day showcasing everything Glossop North End Community Club can offer girls and women in football, both on and off the pitch. The leadership events, coaching and referee workshops highlighted all the roles in football, and the High Peak Cup was a fantastic advert for the talented footballers we have playing the game in the area. If you can see it, you really can be it.”

It was a true celebration of community spirit, passion for the game, and the bright future of girls’ and women’s football in the High Peak.
