Glossop basketball team are the best in the league

Success! Glossopdale Peaks.

The mighty team at Glossopdale Peaks were beyond excited after being crowned champions in the Junior Basketball League.

It’s been an intense journey for the young athletes, battling through difficult leagues and working incredibly hard to form a strong team. Coaches, Nick and Danny, couldn’t be prouder of the team.

“It was fantastic to watch them play so well. We think back to where they began and they have grown so much.

“It’s been a long journey to get to this point, over several years and through various leagues. Some leagues put them under a lot of pressure and, despite working hard, they were losing most weeks,” they said.

However, the team never gave up, persevering and supporting each other to improve their skills. Entering the league this year, they began to stand out.

Glossopdale Peaks battled through 17 games, winning 11 whilst drawing 3 and losing 3. This led them to finish at the top of their league and enter the play-offs. Beating Manchester Tune Squad in the semi-finals, they then went on to face NW Firestorm in the final.

“The game was a very tense and even match, the scores reflected that throughout the game.

“In the second half, whilst tired from working so hard, the team did not let their spirit die and eventually earnt a win, with a score of 18-15.

“It was even tense in the last second of the match, when the opposition took a last second three-point shot. Everyone held their breath and watched in slow motion as it hit the rim and bounced out.”

Glossopdale Peaks were ‘ecstatic’ to be crowned champions and receive their trophies.

The players (Natalie, Liam, Ollie, Alex, Jacob, Beau, Atti, Callum, Tyler and Alfie) take immense pride in their team and some have worked hard promoting the club to attract new players.

With the help of Glossopdale School, the team have been handing out leaflets to young athletes who may want to give basketball a try.

Glossopdale Peaks are part of Glossop Basketball Club. Alongside this team, they offer sessions for years 5 and 6 (Glossopdale Globetrotters) and years 7 and 8 (Glossopdale Giants).

Glossopdale Giants are now looking for new players to join their team this season. They are holding free open trials on Monday (10 October) at The Place, Glossopdale School from 7pm to 8pm. There is no need to book, just turn up and see if you’d like to be a part of the basketball family.
