Glossop athletes off to the US

Athletes from a martial arts club in Glossop are set to represent their country at the upcoming World Championships.

Members of Hadfield-based club Evolution Martial Arts will compete for the English National Team at the upcoming 2025 WKC World Championships, which take place in Niagara Falls this October.

This is not unfamiliar territory for Evolution, whose athletes entered last year’s edition in Albufeira, Portugal, coming away with 13 medals, but this year marks the largest contingent the club has ever had qualify for the prestigious competition.

Six athletes will be jetting off to the US this time out after earning their places back in March with stellar performances at the WKKC English Championships, in which all six brought home a medal.

“We are immensely proud of our fight team’s incredible achievement at the English Championships,” club owner Kelly Buxton told the Chronicle.

“Their dedication and passion for martial arts are truly inspiring.

“Representing England at the World Championships is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we are determined to help make this dream a reality for each and every one of them.”

While the team are more excited than ever to embark on their challenge, the journey to Niagara Falls presents a significant financial challenge.

As a self-funded event, the athletes and their families are responsible for covering all costs associated with travel, accommodation, competition fees, and essential team expenses.

As a result, the club are on the lookout for funding to ease financial pressure and have set up a GoFundMe page ahead of the event.

The club are open to donations on their GoFundMe page.
