Former Hyde CC Cricketer signs his first professional contract with Lancashire

Former Hyde CC opener Keshana Fonseka signed a professional contract with Lancashire Cricket. The deal will see Fonseka play for the legendary county club until the end of 2026.

The 18-year-old is already an England Under-19 international and made his debut with the Lancs last Thursday, where he impressed with a 42-run knock.

Keshana Fonseka became the youngest entrant into the Lancashire Academy at 14. He has since played across teams like Hyde and Little Hulton. His stint at Hyde particularly helped him massively as he earned a call-up into the England U-19 set-up, while at the club.

Fonseka grabbed headlines in his very first England U-19 international as he scored a century against Ireland. His exploits in the past couple of years has helped him earn his debut with Lancashire Cricket and further guarantee a pro contract with them.

“To sign my first professional contract with Lancashire, where I have been in the system for the last eight years, is a really proud moment for me and for my family,” said Fonseka.

“Kesh has been in our county age group system from a young age, moving into the Academy and Second XI in recent years, before making his first team debut at Emirates Old Trafford last week,” said Director of Cricket Performance Mark Chilton
