First medal of the games for Dame Sarah Storey

Celebrations at previous events.

Dame Sarah Storey has won Great Britain's first gold of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games adding to her grand total of 15 Paralympic golds.

The 43-year-old, who was originally born in Eccles, now lives with her partner in Disley and has made history this week securing the nations first gold medal after winning the C5 300m pursuit.

The outstanding athlete has won a medal at every single Games she has competed in and is set to become Great Britain's most decorated Paralympian.

The Dame needs to secure a win in her remaining two events in order to take home this title.

Growing up in Manchester, Dame Sarah Storey has always felt at home in Derbyshire and would often travel to experience the beauty of the countryside.

Posting to her Twitter account, the inspirational athlete said, "thank you so much for all your messages, I'm so proud to win the first medal for Paralympics GB."

Great Britain currently stand at 6th on the medal table with 1 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze and the team have certainly started with a strong performance.
