Fifty Years Of Community Football

Ashton Masonic Hall played host to a glitzy award ceremony last weekend, as West End Amateur Football Club celebrated a memorable season at all age levels and more than 50 years’ service to the community.

The presentation evening, which attracted hundreds of players, coaches and family members, was the first event to take place since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The club, which caters for players aged between 6-18, has a solid foundation for future growth, with top-class facilities, qualified coaches and a positive environment to thrive in.

Following a memorable league campaign at various age levels, the club was heavily represented at the East Manchester Junior Football League finals. The event, a key date on the football calendar, takes place at the end of every season on the first team pitch at the Tameside Stadium - home of Curzon Ashton.

Numerous awards were handed out on the evening as follows:

• Youth Soccer Goalkeeper of The Year - Zain Butt

• Youth Soccer Defender of the Year - Max Thomas

• Youth Soccer Midfielder of The Year - Charlie Humphreys

• Youth Striker of the Year - Joseph McNelly

• Goalkeeper of the Year - Luke Wassilenko (U19s)

• Defender of the Year - Ella Davies (Girls)

• Midfielder of the Year: Isaac Carr (U17s)

• Forward of the Year - Kieran O’Brien (U12s)

• Unsung Hero of The Year - Kevin Potts

• Coach of the Year - Rick Southern

• Team of the Year - U12 Lions
