Hyde United have announced long-serving midfielder Matthew Fearnley will be departing the club to pursue a new challenge.
Since joining The Tigers in January 2023, Fearnley has been an ever-present figure in the middle of the park, making over 150 appearances and scoring 29 goals.
The 26-year-old – who made the most appearances of any Hyde player across the 25/26 campaign – will spend next season with fellow NPL Premier side FC United of Manchester.
Following Fearnley’s departure, Tigers boss Michael Clegg commented:
“I am really sad to lose Fearns, [but] he’s left on really good terms.
“He just wanted a new challenge which I respect him for.
“He’s a great guy and his effort and commitment for this football club in the time he has been here has been top class which I thank him for.”
This comes after the club announced a number of departures following the conclusion of the 25/26 campaign, with Max Harrop, Kieron Lloyd, Tyrell Dawes and Ayo Quadri also set to leave, while loanees Dontai Gabidon, Scott Duxbury, Damon Park and Li-Bau Stowell will all be returning to their parent clubs.
Elsewhere, Will Hall, Shakeel Jones-Griffiths and Edy Maieco have all agreed terms and will remain at Ewen Fields next season.
They join Jack Redshaw, Harry Ditchfield and Tom Pratt, who are also signed on for 26/27.
“I am delighted to retain Will, Shak and Edy,” said Clegg.
“They have all contributed a lot since I walked through the door, and it’s great to get that business done and dusted quickly.”
