Fan-tastic Scheme

Curzon Ashton has linked up with a Dukinfield high school to give away 135 season tickets to lucky pupils.

It’s part of the latest drive from the community foundation to increase its appeal to local youngsters whilst helping out those in need - especially during  this financially tough period amid the cost of living crisis.

Pupils from Cromwell High School who took advantage of the offer, which launched last week, were treated to a fantastic first game on Saturday, as the Nash bounced back from the defeat to Blyth Spartans four days earlier to record a 3-0 win against AFC Telford United.

It’s now hoped that the partnership with the school will usher in a new wave of supporters to the Tameside Stadium, as the club aims for its best ever finish in what marks their seventh consecutive season in the National League North.

Speaking to Reporter Sport about the link-up, community foundation officer Mike Smith said: “It’s important for the club to reach out to all aspects of the community, and it's our hope that we can change the lives of the pupils at Cromwell.”

Luke Davenport, Cromwell High School PE teacher, thanked Curzon for their generosity and hopes the ticket initiative will further strengthen the relationships between the pupils outside of the school environment. 

“The overall outcome for us is to get the pupils accessing events away from the school and furthering their social skills,” he said.

“A big thing for our pupils is being able to tolerate new places, people and surroundings - that’s part of the ethos at the school.

“In the future, hopefully they can take part in mascot duties or become ball boys or ball girls - that’s how we’ll look to further grow the relationship.”
