Familiar faces return to Glossop North End

Glossop North End have added a mix of youth and experience ahead of the new season.

With just a fortnight before their league campaign begins, Lee Rick has re-signed for the Hillmen.

The evergreen midfielder, 35, has spent most of his career in Tameside, playing for Hyde, Ashton United, Mossley and Droylsden.

“We are a different team when he’s on the pitch,” Glossop boss Richard Brodie told the club’s website. “He leads by example and talks other players through the game.”

Brodie also praised Rick’s work rate and dedication.

“He trains how he plays and his standards are very, very high. He’s a winner and someone to bounce ideas off as a manager, too. A massive asset to GNE.”

Also returning to Surrey Street is livewire forward Tom Lawless, who spent the second half of last season with Glossop.

“He’s a little project of mine,” Brodie said of the teenager, who he previously worked with at Burscough.

“This lad has every single attribute to be a top centre forward. For his age he has such a level head on his shoulders, he just wants to learn and improve all the time. He listens and is an absolute pleasure to work with.”

Lawless spent time in Rochdale’s academy, before graduating to senior football in the NWCFL for Litherland REMYCA and Burscough.

Glossop’s pre-season continues at 3pm on Saturday July 13, when Abbey Hey visit the Asgard Engineering Stadium.
