Exciting future ahead for Glossopdale pupil

A Glossopdale pupil is celebrating after being scouted to play for Warrington Wolves rugby team.

14-year-old Harry Knight from Gamesley boats an incredible talent in the sport of rugby. From a young age he stood out and was destined to have a successful journey as a player.

His career started at Glossop Rugby Union Club when he was aged just 6. Even then, it was noticed that he was too physical for tag rugby and so he moved to Saddleworth Rangers to play rugby league.

Here, contact starts at 7 years old, which was much more suited to Harry’s game style.

Walking in his father’s footsteps, Harry’s dad was a keen rugby league player, playing professionally for Swinton Lions, Salford City Reds and Sheffield Eagles, as well as representing England at an amateur level.

During Harry’s second season of rugby league, his father became his coach, instilling his wisdom as well as convincing another Glossop rugby union player to join rugby league.

This excellent player was Ben Warburton, who attends Mossley Hollins High School. Joining Saddleworth Rangers, Harry and Ben became great friends, training together and enjoying a great game of rugby.

Both boys then moved to play for Blackbrook Royals in St Helens. Here, their talent shone and both Harry and Ben were offered the opportunity to play for several Super League teams.

But they have both chosen to join Warrington Wolves together and continue their journey alongside each other.

Harry is now working incredibly hard in the gym to best prepare for preseason in October. They will then train rigorously before the U15 scholarship season commences early next year.

Harry and Ben have jumped at the opportunity to improve their sporting career and will undoubtedly see huge success in the sport.
