East Cheshire athletes put in stunning performances at cross country event

Success! East Cheshire Harriers U20 Women achieved a bronze team medal at the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships.

East Cheshire Harriers were out in strong form at the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships, where they returned with a handful of medals.

The most impressive athletes from across Greater Manchester gathered in Bolton on Saturday (7 January) to complete a course packed with exciting ascents over various terrain.

East Cheshire Harriers have boasted a plethora of incredible athletes since the club was established in 1922.

Now, in 2023, their performances have remained high, with excellent results displayed across a range of disciplines.

The first stand-out performance came from Emilia Platt, who crossed the finish line of the U20 Women’s race in 20:14. Her impressive efforts have seen her representing the North of England at various races, including the British Athletics Cross Challenge.

Joining forces with her fellow fantastic women runners, Emilia was part of the East Cheshire team that achieved bronze at the Greater Manchester Champs.

The rest of the squad consisted of Aliesha Smith, who finished in 24:34 and Megan Lewis who crossed the finish line in 26:46.

Incredible times from all three athletes, the women showed great determination as they raced around the intense course.

Having previously competed at a county level, Megan Lewis is now enjoying life as a university student, studying at Leeds Beckett, and often representing her university at impressive events.

Aliesha made a name for herself across the borough after being the fastest female at the Tour of Tameside in 2022.

Noteable performances also came from the Senior Men’s team, who, together, achieved a silver position.

Joseph Hudak finished in a time of 34:50, Gavin Browne crossed the line in 35:28, Robin Horner finished in 37:36 and Gareth Raven had a time of 37:40, amazing efforts from all involved.

These outstanding athletes often put in fantastic performances, sporting the green and gold colours as they do.

In the Junior race, the U13 girls were the fourth team to cross the finish line.

Excellent runs came from Demi Baxter (13:34), Imogen McBurnie in 16:53 and Erin Royle in 19:03.

East Cheshire have continued to show skill throughout the recent cross country season. Soon, athletes will pull out their spikes as they prepare for yet another successful track season.
