Duki Reserves romp to league title

Dukinfield Town Reserves are celebrating an impressive league title win.

The club secured the Manchester Football League Division Three title earlier this month with a 2-0 win away to Elton Vale reserves.

They were unable to end the season on a high, falling to a 4-0 defeat at home to Chadderton EDS on the final day, but had the satisfaction of lifting the trophy after the final whistle.

While the title win has undoubtedly been a team effort, one man who has stood out for Dukinfield this year is forward Ben Fenton, who finished the season as the league’s top scorer with 30 goals in just 24 games.

It has also been a great season for the club’s first team, who finished as runners-up in the Premier Division, building on their third-place finish in the previous campaign.

Following the triumph, Dukinfield Town Reserves manager Mike Jones told the Reporter: “This season has been a massive success for the club and a fantastic improvement on last seasons mid table finish.

“We realised we needed to add new players if we wanted to challenge for the title this season.

“We added some fantastic players to the club and managed to get over the line.

“All the lads who have come in and played this season have been superb, they’ve given everything to the club and have been a credit to themselves.

“We were challenged close this season, so to overcome a bad run of form mid-season and still come out on top shows how well the lads have done.

“The club as a whole is in a fantastic position with the open age teams all having very strong squads and challenging at the top end of their divisions and our youth section is continuing to progress and grow.”
