Double trouble for Glossop North End

Glossop North End faced disappointment in both the Derbyshire Senior Cup quarter-final and a closely contested league match last week.

On the night of Wednesday 19th, they played and challenging away game against Heanor Town, ultimately falling short with a 2-0 defeat.

The action-packed cup tie kicked off with Heanor Town threatening in the 6th minute, narrowly missing the target with a powerful header from a corner. Glossop responded with Jacques Etia's effort from the edge of the box, comfortably saved by Heanor Town's goalkeeper, Michael Emery.

However, in the 12th minute, Glossop's defence was breached as neat play from Heanor Town set up Danny Gordon, who calmly finished to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Glossop's attempts to respond were met with challenges, including a disallowed goal for offside in the 38th minute.

The second half saw Glossop pushing for an equaliser, with Bobby Bjork forcing a fumble from Emery early on. Despite their efforts, Heanor doubled their lead in the 76th minute through Sacha Markelic. Glossop had their chances, including a near miss from Callum Manley in the 80th minute, but were ultimately denied by Heanor's defence and Emery's impressive saves.

In the post-match interview, manager Richard Brodie acknowledged the team's off day, stating, "I’ll put it down to a blip as things as a rule have been really good, and everyone has an off day, but if too many have an off day it gives you no chance."

Following the setback in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, the Hillmen faced another tough battle on Saturday against Wythenshawe in a league match at the Asgard Engineering Stadium. Despite a series of close calls and defensive manoeuvres in the early minutes, Glossop couldn't prevent Wythenshawe from breaking the deadlock in the 43rd minute through Darryhl Mason's misplaced cross which beat Ellis Allen at the top far corner of the goal.

The second half saw Glossop making tactical changes and substitutions in an effort to find an equaliser, but they couldn't overturn the deficit. Manager Richard Brodie expressed disappointment in the lack of quality in the match and attributed the loss to a flukey goal. Despite the setbacks, Glossop North End remains determined to bounce back and continue their positive form in the upcoming fixtures.
