Defensive error costs Mossley

Pre-Season Friendly: Avro 2-1 Mossley

The hottest day of the year so far saw Mossley lose 2-1 at Avro's Vestacare Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Mossley were without the injured Antony Brown and Mason Fawns along with the unwell Isaac Lopes and new signing Devon Matthews but were boosted by the return to the team of Kane Hickman, Declan Evans and skipper Andy Keogh.

Mossley dominated possession in the first half but lacked real penetration against a well organised home defence.

The Lilywhites were awarded a penalty when the trialist #10 was brought down but Jordan Butterworth saw his spot kick well saved by the home keeper.

Chances for Pratt, Keogh and Evans went begging as Mossley pressed for the most part, but it was Avro who took the lead on 30 minutes. A long punt forward was cleared for a corner but when the ball came across Mossley's trialist #11 was adjudged to have fouled and ex Mossley striker Liam Ellis stepped up to send Latham the wrong way from the spot.

Avro started the second half the brighter and doubled their lead with a well struck Ellis goal following a defensive error.

Mossley finally reduced the deficit in the 70th minute when the trialist #14 scored a well taken goal from 18 yards.

The heat took its toll on both teams by the end and Mossley were unable to find the equaliser that their overall performance probably deserved.
