DCCL round-up: Tintwistle hold their nerve

The Derbyshire & Cheshire Cricket League delivered a full programme of action over the weekend, highlighted by some dominant batting displays and standout individual performances.

In Division 1, Whaley Bridge cruised to a 9-wicket win over Dinting, chasing 194 with ease thanks to George Holden’s 91 and an unbeaten 68 from H. Holden. 

Earlier, I. Earl had impressed for Whaley with the ball finishing with figures of 5 for 31.

Dove Holes produced the performance of the day, amassing a huge 344/3 against Charlesworth. 

B. Bagshaw (95), S. Cartledge (85), D. Jones (56) and T. Forder (71*) all contributed before D. Cartledge’s 5 for 15 bowled Charlesworth out for just 68, sealing a massive 276-run victory.

In a low-scoring encounter, High Lane edged Chapel by 3 wickets, reaching 66/7 after bowling Chapel out for 63, with M. McCarthy taking 5 for 9. 

New Mills secured a 32-run win over Broadbottom, powered by T. Littler’s explosive 104 from just 66 balls, while O. Kilner’s 5 for 50 helped defend 249.

Newton defeated Birch Vale by 81 runs after posting 230/8, with G. Diedericks top-scoring with 62. 

Tintwistle held their nerve in a tight chase, reaching 201/8 on the last ball of the game to beat Old Glossop by 2 wickets, led by K. Davies’ 68.

In Division 2, Birch Vale and Newton played out a rare tie, both finishing on 164, with G. Baker’s 75 matching J. Barrett’s 67. 

Broadbottom edged a high-scoring thriller against New Mills, chasing 269 with 2 wickets to spare after A. O’Mara (85) and C. Pratt (73) set the platform.

Hayfield chased down 120 comfortably against Dove Holes, with H. Flack’s 5 for 32 the standout effort earlier in the match. 

Hazel Grove squeezed past Buxworth by 1 wicket in a nail-biter, despite J. Cooper’s superb 5 for 10 and R. McCormack’s 65.

Hollingworth dominated Old Glossop with a 119-run win, scoring 252/5 thanks to T. Conway’s 83. 

Dinting completed a strong chase of 208/6 against Pott Shrigley, with G. Draper finishing unbeaten on 92 after D. Harwick had taken 5 for 47.

Division 3 featured several low-scoring games. 

Hazel Grove narrowly beat Buxworth by 6 runs after both sides were bowled out cheaply. 

Chapel defended 68 against High Lane, winning by 21 runs thanks to P. Jones’ remarkable 6 for 5.

Charlesworth chased down 52 to beat Hayfield by 6 wickets, while Tintwistle recorded a solid 45-run win over Hollingworth, led by M. Woodward’s 77 and J. Pool’s unbeaten 76. 

Whaley Bridge edged another tight finish, beating Pott Shrigley by 1 wicket after M. Ayaz’s 5 for 32.

In the Bissenden Cup preliminary round, High Lane advanced after Pott Shrigley conceded.

In the Tameside Sunday League, Broadbottom dominated Tintwistle with a 165-run win after posting 215/4 and bowling their opponents out for 50. 

Mottram chased down 140 to beat Stalybridge by 6 wickets, while Newton defeated Stayley by 65 runs after scoring 168/7.

In the Stockport League, High Lane 3rd XI produced a commanding performance, scoring 234/7 before dismissing Bredbury St Marks for 74 to win by 160 runs. 

Marple & Compstall beat Hawk Green by 53 runs, while Offerton edged Hazel Grove by 2 wickets in a close contest.

In the High Peak competition, New Mills chased 142 to beat Buxworth by 5 wickets. 

Dinting secured a 6-wicket win over Glossop, and Dove Holes defeated Old Glossop by 63 runs after posting 191.

In the Development League, Chapel snatched a 1-wicket win over Broadbottom in a tense low-scoring match. Charlesworth beat New Mills by 64 runs, while High Lane eased to a 9-wicket victory over Hollingworth.
