DCCL round-up: Broadbottom clinch title

Broadbottom 1st XI clinched the Division 1 title over the weekend with a 5-wicket win over Dove Holes. 

J Riley led the chase with a composed 76, after T Forder had earlier scored 55 for Dove Holes in their total of 179/8.

Hazel Grove relegated

Hazel Grove’s 250/8, powered by S Higson (89) and K Arora (56), wasn’t enough as rain denied them a result. Dinting closed on 161/5, with J Lythgoe unbeaten on 58. 

The draw sealed Hazel Grove’s relegation.

High Lane frustrated by weather

J Wilkinson’s 57 helped High Lane post 203/6, but rain ended play early with New Mills at 26/0. 

Another rain-affected draw on the final day.

Newton survive with win

Newton defended 123 in a low-scoring thriller against Birch Vale. 

R Sejwal starred with 5 for 34, bowling out the visitors for 90 and sealing a 33-run win.

Old Glossop thrash Hayfield

Old Glossop crushed Hayfield by 119 runs. 

After scoring 206/9, they bowled Hayfield out for just 87. 

Hayfield’s defeat confirmed their relegation.

Tintwistle too strong

Tintwistle bowled out Whaley Bridge for 104, with both C Tipper (5/41) and D Weston (5/39) taking five-wicket hauls. 

They chased the target comfortably, finishing on 107/3.

Division 2

Khalid stars for Newton 2nd XI

H Khalid’s unbeaten 81 guided Newton 2nd XI to 232. 

They bowled out Buxworth for 157, securing a 75-run win despite a battling 62 from D Moore.

Charlesworth promoted

Charlesworth posted 213/6 (G Evans 63*) before rain halted play with Tintwistle 2nd XI on 76/4. 

The draw was enough to confirm Charlesworth’s promotion.

Broadbottom edge low-scorer

Broadbottom 2nd XI scraped past Dove Holes 2nd XI by 3 wickets. 

L Dawson’s 6 for 26 restricted Dove Holes to 73. Broadbottom reached 77/7.

Dinting Beat Hazel Grove

Dinting 2nd XI defended 159 with ease, bowling Hazel Grove 2nd XI out for 96. 

M Hodkinson was the standout with 5 for 26.

J Miller’s masterclass

J Miller smashed 189 off 134 balls as Hollingworth racked up 309/4. 

L Eastwood added 75. 

Old Glossop 2nd XI were bowled out for 174 in reply.

Gyte century secures win

J Gyte hit 113 from 134 balls to lift Chapel to 224/5. 

Pott Shrigley replied with 167, despite 66 from P Beard. T Emmett took 5 for 49.

Division 3

Birch Vale win tight game

Birch Vale 2nd XI chased down 110 to beat Hollingworth 2nd XI by 3 wickets in a tense finish.

Charlesworth take low-scorer

Charlesworth 2nd XI defended 86, bowling out Chapel 2nd XI for just 57 to win by 29 runs.

Hayfield hold nerve

Hayfield 2nd XI chased 75 to beat Buxworth 2nd XI by 4 wickets in another low-scoring affair.

New Mills edge Pott Shrigley

New Mills 2nd XI posted 177/8 (C Monteath 61), holding off Pott Shrigley 2nd XI (J Hart 62*) to win by 13 runs.
