Curzon Ashton’s hopes of a late play-off push were all but extinguished on Tuesday night as The Nash fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Darlington.
Adam Barton’s 92nd minute strike proved to be too little too late as Mark Bradshaw’s side fell to their ninth home defeat of the season.
Jack Maskell headed The Quakers in front after just seven minutes, who were inches away from making it two soon after, as Cedric Main saw his effort cleared off the line by Jordan Richards.
But Main was not to be denied for the second time, as his long-range effort squirmed through the legs of Callum Hawkins to give the visitors a two-goal advantage.
A trademark Adam Barton consolation strike followed, which did little to soften the blow of a disappointing display.
“I think we started quite brightly, and then we just lost our way,” admitted a disappointed Bradshaw following the defeat.
“Darlington worked hard, and put us under a bit of pressure, and we just didn’t deal with it – that’s the most disappointing thing.”
