Curzon seal first home win

Curzon Ashton bounced back from Saturday’s defeat with a statement 2-0 win at home to Chorley on Tuesday.

The Nash took the lead on 23 minutes through former Magpie Brad Holmes, who raced in behind and poked the ball beyond Urwin.

Curzon had goalkeeper Callum Hawkins to thank for preserving their lead going into the break, who produced a flying save to deny Craig Hewitt before getting down to his left superbly to deny Jack Sampson.

The hosts thought they’d doubled their lead on the hour mark when Jimmy Spencer glanced in Crispin McClean’s cross, only for the forward be denied by the linesman’s flag.

The skipper had the ball in the net for a second time 15 minutes from the end, but this one would stand.

Former Mossley man Ben Darby ghosted in at the back post, and when his effort was saved, Spencer was on hand to turn the ball home and seal all three points.

“That was a real pleasing performance,” Curzon boss Mark Bradshaw told the Reporter following the win.

“We had to work hard for it, Chorley didn’t roll over and made it really difficult for us.

“But I think we thoroughly deserved our two-goal lead and could’ve had a couple more as well.”

This weekend sees The Nash travel to newly promoted Bedford Town.
