Curzon make it three wins in a row

Curzon Ashton have bounced back from their disappointing FA Cup exit just under a fortnight ago in the most impressive fashion, winning all three of their next three matches.

After turning things around just days after the defeat to Barnet with a 2-1 win away to Spennymoor Town, The Nash looked to build on the victory on Saturday (November 11) when they welcomed Bishop’s Stortford to the Tameside Stadium.

After failing to break down the visitors in the first half, Curzon were handed an opportunity to do so early in the second when Jamie Allen was brought down inside the area and the referee pointed to the spot.

Up stepped Will Hayhurst who converted from the spot to put his side ahead, scoring his second penalty in as many games.

The visitors came close to levelling the scoring moments from the end when Jack Thomas’ effort cannoned back off the crossbar, but despite the late scare Curzon managed to hold on and seal all three points.

Craig Mahon’s side were back in action on Tuesday (November 14) with another home match, this time they took on Blyth Spartans.

The hosts took the lead early on with Spaniard Stefan Mols lashing in from close range to put Curzon ahead after just 12 minutes.

The Nash doubled their lead in added time at the end of the first half when Jimmy Spencer smashed the ball home after the ball ricocheted to him inside the penalty area.

Spencer then turned provider early in the second half, putting the ball on a plate for Stefan Mols who made no mistake, scoring his second of the evening and putting Curzon 3-0 up.

Visitors Spartans did manage to find a late goal, with JJ Hooper finding the back of the net two minutes from time, but this was merely a consolation, and the home side ran out as 3-1 winners.

The win lifts Craig Mahon’s side up to 7^th in the table, ahead of Saturday’s home tie in the FA Trophy, they host Matlock Town in the second round of the competition.
