Curzon achieve play-off dream

Curzon Ashton booked a place in the National League North play-offs for the first time in their history on Saturday after a goalless draw away to Bishop’s Stortford in their final game of the season.

The Nash got the point they needed to secure the final play-off berth and will travel to Chorley on Wednesday for their eliminator tie.

Should Craig Mahon’s side progress, they will face Brackley Town in the semi-final on Sunday.

If Curzon are to reach the final, it is likely they would face former football league side Scunthorpe United.

The club have already defied the odds by making it to this stage, but if they are to go a step further and achieve promotion it would likely result in huge financial implications.

Going up to the National League would see Curzon’s travel costs soar, as long away trips to the likes of Eastleigh and Yeovil would be on the horizon.

Despite this, club chairman Wayne Salkeld is confident this shouldn’t be an issue:

“As a board we’ve already discussed what the implications would be.

“It’s going to be difficult to win the play-offs but we’re only three wins away from doing it, so these conversations need to be had.

“If we can do it, which is the dream, then we feel we will be well equipped to deal with the changes.

“The sponsorships we will get from the league should be enough to cover the cost of the travel so we should be fine.”
