Oldham Athletic Football Club led the tributes to Dale Harris, their former head of commercial, who died on Monday in Royal Oldham Hospital.
Chadderton FC, to which Dale moved in the summer, announced his death earlier today.
Athletic issued the following statement: “Everyone at Oldham Athletic is shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and former colleague, Dale Harris.
“From starting as a matchday volunteer, Dale progressed to become a coach and education officer with Oldham Athletic Community Trust, and most recently the club’s Head of Commercial.
“As a club, we send our heartfelt thoughts and condolences to all of Dale’s family and his loved ones following this incredibly sad news.”
Chadderton FC said: “Our thoughts at this time are with his wife, children and all his family.
“Dale made a huge impact in developing our Club with numerous projects…to take this Club forward to new levels,” and that “it is a huge loss to our Club and he will be sadly missed by us all.”
Dale was well known and universally liked throughout the local football community and beyond. Most recently, he spearheaded efforts to raise funds to support Ryan Shenton, a Chadderton player who broke his leg playing for the club, leaving him unable to work.
Chadderton FC have said that condolences and tributes will be accepted at their Andrew Street stadium this coming Saturday, when they face North Shields in the FA Vase. Tonight’s fixture against Barnoldswick has been cancelled as a mark of respect.
