Clubs in Tameside offered support thanks to Tameside Sport Network

Sports Clubs in Tameside are being offered support and guidance amid the Coronavirus lockdown thanks to the Tameside Sport and Physical Activity Network.

Headed up by Active Tameside’s Andy Dwyer, the Network aims to engage and support all Tameside sports clubs & physical activity groups through a formal network that will increase participation and develop the workforce by providing pathways and advice leading to a healthier lifestyle along with ensuring sustainability for future generations.

A whole variety of clubs have affiliated into the network, with sports ranging from underwater hockey and synchronised swimming, to cricket and martial arts.

The clubs will now receive one-to-one support  in a bid to source extra funding amongst other things.

And even though the country is currently on a lockdown following the Coronavirus outbreak, Andy says he’s just a phone call away for clubs in need of a push in the right direction.

Speaking to Reporter Sport, Andy said: “We’ve been going for about four months now and affiliated 70 clubs into the Network.

“There’s a variety of different things we’re working on with the clubs, so if you look at the funding side of things, we’ve filled out application forms with Ashton Albion Boxing Club and Mottram Cricket Club. I’ve also been working with the three Tameside rugby clubs, and what we’re looking to do is create a Tameside Rugby Town team.

“We obviously can’t meet clubs face-to-face at the moment, but we’re only a phone call away and we can also communicate via email. We still have club support plans and we’ll be helping them to put plans in place for the future. We’ve just launched the Club Education Bursary, where all affiliated groups can apply for 705 per cent  worth of funding a level one or level two qualification, so there are still things we can plan and put in place for when the times right and we return to normality.”
