City Watch: New contracts for Dias and Rodri

Just over a week remains until Manchester City return to Premier League action, and I don’t know about everyone else, but I cannot wait.

Before the Blues kick off their campaign against Wolves next weekend, the players will travel to Italy on Saturday for a pre-season friendly against Palermo.

City haven’t had the opportunity to have a full pre-season friendly tour like usual due to their involvement in the Club World Cup early on in the summer, so this game will give the players a good chance to get up to some level of match fitness before next weekend.

Following the signing of James Trafford last week, there haven’t been any developments in potential signings before the end of the window later this month, with the possibility that City’s summer business is now complete.

Despite this, there is some good news to report on should everything go through.

It’s been reported that the club are lining up new contracts for both centre back, Ruban Dias and midfielder, Rodri.

These would be two huge contract extensions, giving how important both players are to Pep’s system.

Ruben Dias’ current contract expires in 2027, so the club are clearly keen on keeping the 28 year old at the Etihad for a while to come.

As for Rodri, last season showed up really how important the Spaniard is to Pep’s style of play, so it’s understandable that City aren’t hanging around in tying him down.

Rodri could potentially become the club’s second top earner behind Erling Haaland with a new deal, and I’m hoping things are wrapped up before the end of the transfer window.

One thing I’m disappointed about over the summer is that we still have no conclusion to the 115 charges held against the club.

The case has been going on for so long now, and honestly, the outcome doesn’t even worry me anymore, I’d rather just know what it’s going to be.

I’d be surprised if most fans didn’t agree that having a conclusion before the start of the new season has to happen, because it just feels so dragged out now.

Who knows though, by this time next week, I might be eating my words if a decision is reached!
