Chadderton win FA Vase thriller

It was a fantastic Saturday for Chadderton as they beat Parkgate FC 3-2 away from home to reach the next round of the FA Vase. The result alone earned Chadderton £550 in prize money. 

Chadderton got off to a dream start in the tie as they were ahead in the 6th minute. Liam Chambers latched onto a ball and volleyed superbly into the right-hand side of the goal. 

The joy was short-lived as Parkgate equalised just two minutes later. Simon Harrison took the ball around his man on the edge of the box and shot low into the corner to level the game up at 1-1.

Both teams had their keepers to thank for going in at the break level as they were called upon regularly in a very open contest. 

Shortly after the white for the second half Chadderton though they were ahead as they had the ball in the back of the net. However, the linesman had already flagged for a push in the back leading up to the goal and it was disallowed. 

In the 54th minute, Chadderton did have their second goal of the game. Chambers again the scorer as he capitalised on a defensive mix up to slot the ball home.

The game was always open and both teams wasted multiple chances. On the 74th minute, Parkgate equalised as a well-worked quick free-kick was passed to the feet of Tom Fusco who slotted the ball in to make it 2-2.

In a crazy game, the thrills didn’t stop and goals certainly didn’t. Just one minute after conceding Chadderton got their third and what turned out to be the winner. From the kick-off, Chadderton went worked the ball to Jack Snape who smashed the ball home. 

It was certainly a terrific game for the neutral at Parkgate but it was Chadderton who came away winners and march onto the next round.

After the game, Chadderton manager David Fish said, "After a disappointing bank holiday weekend it was important to get things back on track today. We lost at Parkgate at the same stage last season and shortly after they changed their management team and strengthened. They have also started the season well so this was never going to be an easy game. The pitch was as close to perfect as you'll get at this level and that suited us.”

"All the players showed good character and resolve to bounce back from a disappointing run of four games and there were lots of good performances. On a personal level, it feels good to break my duck as a manager in the Vase.”
