Celtic manager Haworth begins squad rebuild

Stalybridge Celtic manager Simon Haworth has started assembling his squad ahead of the forthcoming season in the Northern Premier League, Premier Division.

After a brief period away from the club, striker Scott Bakkor has returned to Bower Fold. The 26-year-old scored 14 goals in 87 appearances during his two-year stint at the Fold. The former Curzon Ashton, Skelmersdale United and Marine player  won Celtic’s Player of the Year in 2018/19.

Upon signing for the club, Scott told Celtic's official website:

"The main reason for me wanting to come back and why I am happy to be back is because I loved being at the club last time I was here.

"I had a really good two years here and really enjoyed playing for Simon.

"I'm buzzing to be back and I can't wait to get started again, it's been a while.

"Having spoken to Simon, I think he missed me a bit! I'm using that as a reason for coming back as well, he didn't want to do another season without me!

"We agreed on targets and what we both want for the new season, I feel like we're going to get a good squad together this year and do something good."

Meanwhile, experienced defender Stephen O'Halloran, who has previously played for Salford City and Stockport County, has opted to stay at the club in a player/coach capacity. He initially joined in June 29 and has since made 45 appearances for the club.

Striker Matty Hughes has also joined from Chester. He made six appearances for the club last season before joining Lancaster City on a dual registration, although he made no appearances due to Covid-19 impacting the season.

Haworth has secured his third striker, Florian Yonsian, who most recently featured for Trafford. He began his career in Rochdale's youth academy before joining Salford City in 2019.
