Celtic fans raise £3K for a great cause

The Stalybridge Celtic Supporters Association (SCSA) recently took on the ‘Stalybridge Three Peaks challenge’, raising over £3000 for a fantastic cause.

The SCSA organised the challenge to raise vital funds to go towards installing a community defibrillator outside Bower Fold, and the group have smashed their initial £1000 target.

The 11-mile route began at Bower Fold at 8:30am on Saturday April 26, before the team tackled Hough Hill, Wild Bank, and Harridge Pike, before arriving back at the ground just in time for Celtic’s fixture against City of Liverpool, in which they ran out as 2-0 winners.

Following the event, Shaun Bishop, the Chairman of the Stalybridge Celtic Supporters Association told The Reporter:

“Having access to a defibrillator in that moment of need can really be a matter of life or death, so when we floated the idea of fundraising for a defibrillator to be installed at Bower Fold, the whole committee agreed it was something we should fully get behind.

“We are so grateful to everyone who made a donation to this fundraiser.

“After tallying up all the donations we are delighted to say we have raised over £3000.

“Our initial target was for £1000, so to treble the amount is just amazing news.

“It will now allow us to look at additional defibrillators, but it will also allow us to purchase items like bleed kits which are another vital life-saving piece of equipment.

“The installation of a defibrillator at the ground was an important step in the SCSA’s vision as a community benefit society.

“We want to make an impact not only on Stalybridge Celtic but also Stalybridge as a community.

“A big thank you to Kevin Welsh who created the three peaks route and to everyone who took part in the walk.”
