Buxton swimmer earns stunning silver medal

Tokyo 2020 - Team GB

Buxton's Abbie Wood has beaten her expectations at the Commonwealth Games after winning a silver medal in the women's 4 x 100m freestyle.

Arriving in Birmingham intending to just 'enjoy the experience', 23-year-old Abbie has achieved beyond her dreams after a fantastic swim from Team England.

A stunning swim from Abbie and the team, England battled champions of the world, Australia, for the top spot in the pool.

The women held their own for a commendable amount of time, until the Australian team powered through to take gold.

Just missing out on a bronze medal at Tokyo 2020, this accolade comes as exciting news for Abbie, who has been training unbelievably hard between competitions.

This medal adds to the already high amount from Team England, and there are plenty more races set to commence.
