Brownhill calls time on Celtic stay

Stalybridge Celtic have been dealt a big blow ahead of Saturday’s clash with Prescot Cables, with stalwart defender Kyle Brownhill departing the club.

The full-back, who has been a mainstay in Celtic’s successes over recent seasons has made the jump back to Step 3 football, once again linking up with former side Lancaster City.

Brownhill - who arrived at Bower Fold in the summer of 2024 and went on to make over 100 appearances - was a key figure throughout Jon Macken’s tenure, playing every league minute of the 2025/26 campaign, becoming the only Celtic player to do so.

The 31-year-old continued this feat into the current campaign, starting – and finishing – all 13 NPL West matches.

Brownhill was also proving to be an unlikely source of goals of late, having netted four times already this season, after failing to do so for the entirety of the last campaign.

The former Hyde United man made his final appearance on Tuesday, featuring in a 3-1 win over Stafford Rangers, with his departure coinciding with the arrival of new boss Dave Jones.
