Bloods up to second

Droylsden moved up to second place with a 3-2 win over Darwen at the weekend.

The home side shot into an early two-goal lead before the Bloods fought back to level terms in the first half, and Kyle Campbell’s effort in the second half was enough to earn an important three points.

The Bloods match was one of only three games that took place over the weekend, due to the frozen conditions. The AstroTurf pitch at the Multevo Group Anchor Ground held up, and within ten minutes, the home side were ahead through Bruno De Almeida Severino.

Things only got worse for Dave Pace’s side as just three minutes later, Darwen had doubled their advantage through Nathan Bond, getting on the end of a long ball to beat Jordan Latham.

Droylsden could have easily wilted, but found a way back into the game, with Cody Artwell scoring to make it 2-1 with a quarter of an hour played. It was his sixth goal of the season and his first since November.

Then, on the brink of half-time, Harry Shipton popped up on a corner to level things going into the break.

The Bloods would take the lead just after the hour mark, as Kyle Campbell was on hand to net his eighth on the campaign, a much-needed goal for him after not scoring in his previous 12 games.

His goal proved to be the match-winner, seeing his side move up to second behind Thornton Cleveleys, with Droylsden having two games in hand on the league leaders.

It’s a return to Cup action this weekend as they host Sherwood Colliery in the fourth round of the FA Vase. The Nottinghamshire-based side currently sits second in the United Counties Premier North.
