Bloods suffer first defeat of the season

Droylsden suffered their first loss of the season away to Maghull on Saturday.

The Bloods found themselves four goals down after an hour and almost rescued a point after scoring three late goals, but were unable to complete their comeback.

Dave Pace’s side found themselves a goal down within the opening two minutes of the game through Sam Smith. And by half-time, Maghull would double their lead when Danny Brannigan would score five minutes before the break.

Things would only get worse after the restart when the hosts would add a third, this time through Nathan Peet, heading home from a corner.

Droylsden’s day would continue to sour only minutes later when Kyle Oakes would be shown a second yellow card, making the task even more difficult for his side.

And just on the hour mark, Peet would have his second and make it four with a spectacular volley into the top corner of Greg Hall’s goal.

The Bloods were able to show some form of resilience with two quickfire goals from Nelson Van and Kyle Campbell with fifteen minutes to play, a first Droylsden goal for the latter. And Shipton grabbed a third in the 83rd minute.

Despite this fightback, Droylsden were unable to draw level. Not the start they had hoped for this early in the season.

Another away trip awaits the Bloods this Saturday when they travel up the M61 to face Garstang, who have yet to win so far this season. Although it’s only early days in the campaign, Droylsden ought to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.
