Bloods suffer back-to-back defeats

Droylsden suffered another defeat at the weekend, losing 2-1 to Garstang on the road.

Although it’s still very early in the season, they have already lost two of their opening three games, leaving them in 12th place.

After a goalless first half, it was the home side that struck first, with Luke Draysey netting shortly after the restart. However, the Bloods equalised in the 63rd minute through Nellson Van, cutting in from the left before finding the top corner for his second goal of the season.

Despite finding a way back into the game, it would be Garstang who struck next, Draysey picking up his second of the game, driving through the centre of the pitch before slotting in at the near post.

Things would only get worse for Dave Pace’s side as their captain, Liam Moran, would leave the pitch with ten minutes to go through injury, before Caelan Kilheeney would sit out the remainder of the game from being sin-binned.

With only one automatic promotion spot in this division, and having fallen short at the playoffs in the last two seasons, Droylsden can ill-afford to get off to another slow start in the league. Hopefully, the team will begin to find its feet soon as new signings start to gel. With debuts on Saturday for Emmanuel Udjor Omorogbe and Kian Le Fondre, both coming off the bench after signing in the week, signing from West Didsbury and Chorlton and Newcastle Town, respectively.

The Bloods return to the Butcher’s Arms on Saturday as they face Squires Gate, who picked up their first win of the season against Darwen FC at the weekend.
