Bloods hit Steeton for six

A ruthless Droylsden side ran riot on Saturday, putting six past Steeton in an emphatic attacking performance from the Bloods.

Manager Dave Pace was thrilled with the response this week following last week’s 4-0 defeat to Holker Old Boys saying, “I don’t they played particularly bad, I think it was us that played really well.”

The Bloods led 3-1 at halftime with Joel Ankers scoring all three as Droylsden created countless opportunities at the Butchers Arms Ground. That gets Ankers off the mark for the season as he looks to make his claim as a permanent fixture of the squad.

Steeton pulled one back through a Kyle Hancock penalty five minutes before the break, but Droylsden continued to exert their dominance in the second half.

Caelan Kilheeney scored for the second successive game, smashing home a volley from inside the box before his midfield partner Ben Lowe grabbed Droylsden’s fifth with a powerful strike. Shaquille Lewys then wrapped up the scoring in the 77th minute.

Not even a missed penalty from Nelson Van could dampen the mood on a brilliant afternoon for the Bloods, which saw them move into 5th place ahead of a tough trip on Saturday to early frontrunners Nelson FC.

Nelson have won all five of their games so far, scoring 16 and conceding five. However, Droylsden showed last season they were more than capable of getting result away to the top sides in the division and will be hoping to follow that up this year too.
