Bloods extend winning run

Droylsden stretched their winning run in the league to eight after a 2-1 win away to Euxton Villa on Saturday, leaving them in a good position as we approach the business end of the season.

The Chorley side were ahead after 16 minutes through Kai Shorrock, breaking away before slotting past Ellis Allen in goal.

However, within less than ten minutes the Bloods were back level, with George Kattah levelling things for Droylsden. That was his 13th goal for the club since joining in his 13th appearance.

Both sides would have opportunities before the break, with Euxton hitting the post just after the half-hour mark and Droylsden going close through Caelan Kilheeney and Connor Brotherton.

Dave Pace’s side would take the lead with just over an over played, Elvis Amoakwa with a powering header from a corner kick for his first goal of the season.

Droylsden would have several more chances to wrap up the game but were unable to give themselves breathing room over a Euxton side still pushing for a promotion spot. However, it did not matter in the end as the Bloods held out for another important win.

This remarkable run has leaves Droylsden third, six points behind first place Nelson FC, with three games in hand. Although the Bloods are five points behind second place Atherton, who have played the same number of games as Dave Pace’s side.

Atherton and Nelson still have to play one another, meanwhile Droylsden are scheduled to play the former on the 1st of March, which could potentially be a crucial game in the Blood’s season.

Dave Pace’s side are away once again this Saturday as they travel just shy of Blackburn to take on 6th place Darwen FC.
