Bloods defeated on the road

It was a day to forget for Droylsden last Saturday as they suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Maghull FC, which leaves the Bloods still in a playoff position, but could lose this should Ashton Athletic win their game in hand.

The team from Merseyside started the brighter of the two, getting a chance within the first two minutes of the game, being stopped by Jordan Hadlow, before again being called upon in the 14th minute.

The Droylsden keeper was the far busier of the two and pulled off a fantastic save from close range five minutes from halftime.

Things didn’t improve after the break, with Maghull taking the lead shortly after the restart through Nathan Moffitt, moments after Droylsden had a chance of their own at the other end of the pitch.

The home side doubled their lead in the 56th minute after a mistake by Hadlow, with Darren Brannigan scoring his fourth goal of the season.

For the third time in their last four games, Dave Pace’s side could not score after a fantastic attacking start to the season and left Merseyside in defeat. It’s not time to panic, but lessons need to be learnt by this young team.

The Bloods followed this up with a clash against AFC Blackpool in the Edward Case Cup, which was abandoned in the 75th minute after a floodlight failure. George Kattah scored a hat trick and Fuad Kasali was also on the scoresheet.

Their next match is on Saturday at home to Thornton Cleveleys, which resulted in a 3-1 defeat in the reverse fixture.
